Eversheds comment: OFT action will benefit both UK consumers and legitimate games businesses

  • United Kingdom

    26-09-2013

Commenting as the OFT prepares to toughen up on overly agressive commercial practices in the video games market , Matthew Gough, head of consumer law at global law firm Eversheds, says:

"It is encouraging to see the OFT using its powers under Consumer Protection Regulations to protect vulnerable consumers such as children and this will be reinforced when further protection around pricing is introduced next June as the EU's Consumer Rights Directive becomes law. Furthermore, this action will be equally welcomed by the many legitimate businesses in the video games market who do not have to rely on such desultory practices."
