Eversheds comment: Patient investment required for long-term UK infrastructure

  • United Kingdom

Commenting on the potential for an independent UK infrastructure board, Bruce Dear, head of London real estate at law firm Eversheds, says:

"Only patient investment creates long-term infrastructure. Governments, gripped by five-yearly election cycles, are poor infrastructural investors. Hence the UK's chronic post-war infrastructure deficit. The creation of an independent infrastructure board would bring a welcome degree of long-term independent thinking to the gap where our new roads and railways should be. Like our Victorian ancestors, we need to unleash the power of patient capital and build British infrastructure fit for the coming century."
