Eversheds comment: Policy direction on UK garden cities needs real substance

  • United Kingdom

Commenting on the publication of a Garden City Prospectus by the UK Government, Stuart Andrews, partner at global law firm Eversheds, says:

"There will almost inevitably be a push in this direction as the general election approaches and the key issue will be effective and speedy delivery.

"These large scheme are very hard to make work and they need statutory support in conjunction with clear policy direction. Funding in the long term is essential and that means the policy direction has to have real substance.

"The initiative also lends itself to institutional funding because it is an expensive long-play both practically and in the delivery of something of real value."
