Eversheds comment: UK Chancellor sends strong welcoming signal to China in face of fierce competition

  • China

Commenting as the UK prepares to cement stronger trade and investment relations with China, Stephen Kitts, Asia managing partner at global law law firm Eversheds, says:

"China has a stated intention to make investments overseas and its outbound deals are attracting a lot of attention at present. The UK is keen to attract more than its fair share of activity in the face of fierce competition from other European countries such as Germany and this announcement sends a strong signal eastwards that the UK is opening its doors. The investment in Manchester Airport by Beijing Construction Engineering Group merely underlines this and is very much a sign of things to come."
