Eversheds comment: Measures to curb "opportunistic and deliberately obstructive” challenges in UK planning system should be welcomed

  • United Kingdom

In his speech at the CBI conference, David Cameron discussed plans to unlock the planning system by curbing the scope for judicial reviews of controversial planning decisions. Planning specialists at global law firm Eversheds welcomed the measures as a victory for common sense.
Stuart Andrews, partner and planning specialist at global law firm Eversheds, said:

"Anything that is proposed by the government to restrict opportunistic and deliberately obstructive judicial review challenges is greatly supported, particularly given the increasingly common tendency of objectors to pursue this strategy to delay perfectly acceptable and well thought out schemes."
