Eversheds comment: UK ahead of the curve in benefits for working parents

Commenting on a study by Glassdoor which compared paternity entitlements in 14 European countries, Shirley Hall, partner and employment law expert at law firm Eversheds, says:

"The European Commission is currently looking into whether paternity and parental leave rights across Europe should be strengthened. In the UK, fathers currently qualify for paid shared parental leave and paternity leave; they may be surprised to discover that the overall package of rights available to them is already comparatively generous. Such benefits are also of clear benefit to working mothers. As such, any future changes proposed to EU-wide regulation of paternity rights won’t affect UK working parents as much as those elsewhere in Europe."
