Eversheds comment: UK Government's simplification of the CRC brings short term gains

  • United Kingdom

With the publication of the UK Government's response to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme simplification consultation, Jane Southworth, legal director at global law firm Eversheds comments:

"Many UK businesses have struggled to come to terms with some of the technical complexity of the CRC scheme, particularly in areas such as the interlink with Climate Change Agreements, the 90% rule and the variety of different fuels caught by the scheme. Businesses are likely to welcome these reforms as they will help to make the scheme far more user friendly.

"However, while these changes may bring some certainty to the scheme in the short term, its long term future looks more uncertain as the Government has promised to review its effectiveness in 2016."
