Ireland’s largest and most established global law firm, Eversheds Sutherland, is delighted to announce that it has strengthened its expertise with the appointment of four new partners at its Dublin office.
Robert Dever in the Tax team, Robert Potter–Cogan in Banking & Finance, and Mary Kiely and Maria O’Brien in the Corporate team have all been promoted from Senior Associate to Partner.
Robert Dever is a lawyer with extensive experience advising large corporates and multinational corporations on a wide range of Irish corporate tax and stamp duty matters, particularly for M&A transactions, corporate reorganisations and restructurings, and inward investment into Ireland. He also advises on complex VAT matters, particularly concerning commercial real estate, and both contentious and non-contentious employment and litigation tax matters. Robert is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Irish Tax Institute and regularly speaks at industry events about tax matters.
Robert Potter-Cogan advises banks, corporate lenders and corporate borrowers on a broad range of finance transactions including real estate and development finance, acquisition finance and general corporate lending. Rob has extensive experience in advising lender clients on the provision of facilities to limited partnerships, ICAVS and other regulated entities; in reviewing existing security structures; and in advising on debt restructuring, workouts and enforcement strategies. Rob has also lectured for the Law Society of Ireland on its company secretarial diploma course and tutored students as part of the Law Society's Professional Practice Courses.
Mary Kiely advises on corporate transactional work such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, private equity investments and capital market transactions. Mary has particular expertise in advising clients in the retail, waste, energy, and natural resources sectors, as well as on company law compliance, corporate governance issues, group reorganizations and employee share schemes. Mary is also a company law tutor on the Law Society’s Professional Practice Courses.
Maria O’Brien advises on domestic and cross-border transactions in many industries including the insurance, healthcare, financial services, food, energy and technology sectors. Maria also has extensive experience in advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, fundraising from private investors and financial institutions, corporate governance, complex and contentious corporate matters, joint venture and shareholders’ agreements, group reorganisations, general company law queries and commercial agreements.
All of these appointments come at a time of significant growth for the firm to serve its expanding client base, as Ireland continues to be an international hub with opportunities for internationally-focused companies.
Announcing the new appointments, Alan Connell, Managing Partner of Eversheds Sutherland Ireland said:
“ As the largest and most established international law firm in Ireland, and a global top 10 law firm, retaining and attracting the best talent in the market is hugely important to us, and indeed our clients. Investing significantly as a firm in our people and our practice offerings is a key component of our ongoing success, ensuring we have the necessary skillsets within our ranks to provide leading and innovative local and global legal advice to help our clients succeed in buoyant as well as challenging times.
“I am delighted to announce our new Partner appointments; each one of these hard-working and dedicated colleagues has made a significant contribution to our firm already and they are committed to growing and strengthening their respective practice areas with their teams. I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to all of them and I wish them every success in their promising future careers.”
