09-05-2023

We are excited to announce that Sibil Melliger has been appointed as new Partner as of 1 May 2023.

Sibil Melliger is a member of the Financial Services team. She is also a member of Eversheds Sutherland Switzerland’s Startup Desk and the Global DLT Practice Group.

Sibil has extensive experience in banking, DLT/blockchain, financial services, financial markets infrastructure as well as anti-money laundering law and regularly advises clients in these areas. In addition, she has conducted numerous internal investigations related to cross-border, regulatory issues and white-collar crimes.

Sibil provides legal and regulatory advice to banks and other financial service providers. As an expert in DLT/blockchain as well as general regulatory and corporate legal matters, she further advises founders of blockchain companies and other FinTech companies in all legal matters and supports them in setting up their legal and compliance framework as well as their tokenization offerings.

Besides her sound knowledge particularly in banking, FinTech/DLT/blockchain as well as AML and other compliance topics, her in-house working experience as Head of Legal & Compliance at multiple banks and blockchain companies and her deep understanding and involvement in FINMA licensing processes are an invaluable asset. Of particular note is Sibil’s former role as General Counsel in one of Switzerland’s first crypto banks, and her decisive contribution to the crypto bank successfully receiving a banking license.

Michael Mosimann, Partner and Co-Head of the Global DLT Practice Group says: “We are beyond excited to welcome Sibil Melliger to Eversheds Sutherland, both professionally and personally. With her background in the financial sector, Sibil will strengthen our Financial Services team in Switzerland and globally. As Co-Head of the Global DLT Practice Group, I am particularly excited to boost our practice group with Sibil’s experience in the FinTech/DLT area and strengthen our local presence in the Crypto Valley. Her former role as general counsel of one of Switzerland’s major crypto banks in its start-up, growth, and licensing phase gives her a unique skill-set to advise clients from both the traditional financial market space as well as from the emerging DLT area.”
