Colleagues with cancer - Corporate compassion

Who should attend

This Colleagues with cancer training course is aimed at HR and OH professionals. It will help line-managers who manage a colleague affected by cancer or other serious progressive diseases.

More people recover from cancer now (and other serious conditions) and remaining in, or returning to, work may be an important part of a patient’s desire for normal life. The term ‘cancer’ covers more than 100 distinct diseases, each of which has varying symptoms and prospects for recovery. Prolonged treatments may cause fatigue, body change, risk of infection and nausea. Recovery can take a long time and the ability to resume work varies.

Cancer is a recognised disability under the Equality Act. Carers of cancer patients have protected status in some respects, and so do people who have recovered from cancer. No two patients face the same experience. What do you say when your employee is struggling to find the words as well? This briefing will help employers review their approach to serious illness which they will encounter more often as people work for longer.
