Director responsibility for safety - Punishing fines and individual prosecution

Who should attend

In 2017 a supermarket was fined £5 million for an incident on a petrol forecourt where no one was hurt but where the potential risk of harm was considered by the Court to be high. Since 2016, when the Health and Safety Sentencing Guideline came into force, 40 organisations have each been fined over £1 million. In contrast, five companies received £1 million fines in the two years before the Guideline’s introduction*.
