This course is aimed at HR professionals in education institutions who advise or provide guidance on the investigation and management of sexual harassment complaints against staff or who are responsible for the drafting/updating/application of their institution’s policies on sexual harassment, grievance and discipline.

Synopsis

The issue of sexual harassment continues to be high profile with widespread local, national and international coverage across multiple sectors and jurisdictions. This has included widespread discussion and analysis of the issue in the education sector and an examination of how institutions currently deal with such allegations and whether their current practices and policies are fit for purpose.

In this session we will consider the latest developments, the key legal issues and provide practical guidance on topics including:

− the role of HR in ensuring a “zero tolerance” culture

− strategies for managing complaints and what to include in your policies and procedures to support this

− managing the interface between complaints/grievance procedures and those relating to the disciplinary process

− difficult/tricky scenarios and issues and how to manage them
