Supporting your success internationally - Indian opportunities Joint Higher Education Event
Who should attend
This workshop session would be of interest to roles in higher educational institutions such as Pro Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Director of International Partnerships, University Registrar, Chair, Board of Governors, Finance and Legal Directors.
Synopsis
Eversheds Sutherland together with Seamless and Acumen both part of Sannam S4 Group are delighted to invite leaders in the UK Higher Education community to our upcoming joint event to help both uncover opportunities in the Indian HE market and support your India business plans. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss the recently released draft UGC guidelines for institutions interested in setting up campuses in India.
The event will take place at Eversheds Sutherland Wood Street London offices on Tuesday 21 March 2023 and includes refreshments and buffet lunch.
The session will cover current opportunities in higher education for both UK universities wishing to operate in India and UK universities wishing to work in the UK with Indian partners and students. You will get an opportunity to hear from experts in the UK and India who will share their insights on engaging in and with India.
Education is increasingly taking centre stage in UK-India relations. India continues to be a key recruitment market for UK Universities, with inbound recruitment volumes (into the UK from India) rising from c.30,000 students in the 2018/19 cycle to over 82,000 in the most recently reported (2020/21) recruitment cycle.
The workshop will cover:
• The dynamics driving growth in India
• The Indian National Education Policy
• Support for private investments juxtaposed with ‘public spirited private’ initiatives in HE
• Modernising Indian HE through privatised internationalisation by allowing top 1000 institutions from other countries to establish transnational educational (TNE) partnerships with Indian higher education institutions (HEIs)
• The move towards ‘light but tight’ regulation of the HE sector in the spirit of access and equity
• Using digitalisation to enable low cost delivery of higher education
In particular the workshop will cover:
GIFT City - the planned business district in Gujarat. The Indian Government has recently passed regulations to attract foreign universities to set up off-shore campuses at GIFT City (a free trade zone) and allowed them to repatriate profits. We will explore the opportunity this presents
India presence - Taking inputs from the above sessions, we will also explore some of the practical considerations associated with an institution establishing a formal footprint in the Indian market, considering a variety of commercial models, including establishing local for-profit and non-profit structures.
Seamless offers services to the non-profit and commercial sectors to expand in India and beyond. With over a decade of experience in India reinforced by the Sannam S4 brand, Seamless is ideally placed to make international expansion a success for organisations of all shapes and sizes. Acumen is able to develop and implement multi-channel marketing and student recruitment plans and strategies that positively impact brand exposure, brand equity, international and domestic recruitment volumes and, ultimately, revenue.
Eversheds Sutherland has a dedicated higher education team advising universities on international activities. It has advised on the set up many branch campuses for UK universities and TNE joint ventures with international partners. It has advised many universities on their India operations and UK universities in partnering with Indian institutions.
The event is by Invitation Only and promises to be an inspiring event, however if you are unable to attend, please do feel free to nominate another senior colleague who can attend in your place.
We look forward to meeting with you on Tuesday 21st March 2023.
