Floating Solar Breakfast Workshop

Who should attend

This event is aimed at lawyers, business and sustainability professionals who have an interest clean energy and new advances and technology within solar energy.

Synopsis

Eversheds Sutherland and DNV GL are hosting a floating solar breakfast workshop on 5 November from 8.30am at Eversheds Sutherland’s London office.

Floating solar is a relatively new concept. The majority of installations are located in Asia but the technology is now spreading to Europe. The buoyant structures are ideally suited to a lake or man-made bodies of water, such as reservoirs, as the waters are calmer than the ocean. Floating solar PV installations open new opportunities for scaling up capacity, especially in countries with a high population and restricted use of land. Floating solar has some advantages over land based systems, including no loss of land space, environmental benefits and high solar panel performance.

Floating solar systems have some challenges around lack of track record, cost uncertainty, technical complexity and operations and maintenance (O&M).

Floating solar is about to form a third pillar in the market for solar energy next to ground mounted and rooftop solar. At the moment 10 GW of floating solar projects are already under development (source: SERIS).

This workshop will focus on the key markets for floating solar, how best to structure these projects and how to overcome the challenges with predictions on future growth and opportunities.

Legal and technical experts from both DNV GL and Eversheds Sutherland, who have advised on floating solar, will lead the workshop alongside other speakers. We will be delighted if you can join us to learn more about this innovative technology.
