This briefing is aimed at HR, lawyers and recruitment professionals who oversee international assignments. It covers legal and contractual issues only. We do not cover the practicalities of relocation and cultural adjustment.

Synopsis

A unique set of employment, immigration, social security and tax requirements must be considered when sending an individual employee to work abroad, or when bringing an employee into the UK. It is tempting to take a template approach to assignments but this often proves costly and risky in the long run.

These obligations apply in at least two jurisdictions, sometimes more. We cover the suitability of different assignment structures, the crucial importance of ‘for-purpose’ documentation and of securing and protecting the immigration status of your migrant workforce, conflict of laws and jurisdictional issues, and questions that arise at the end of an assignment.
