Give and Gain Day 2010

For the second year running, on 9th July 2010 international law firm Eversheds was participating in the volunteering event known as “Give & Gain Day”. Staff of Eversheds all over the world took an active part in various types of training and educational programs for young people.

Our law firm is part of the initiative, too. This year we decided to join the “Flood: We Will Help!” campaign started by the Centre for Citizenship Education (CEO).

In order to help repair the damage caused by the recent flooding in Poland, for one month our staff have collected books for children in flooded areas. We managed to collect nearly 400 books. On 9 July the books were donated to the elementary school in the village of Borki, south of Płock. The village is part of Gąbin commune, one of the most severely affected by this year’s flooding.

We also provided help in the form of pro bono legal assistance for the CEO Foundation in connection with the campaign it is conducting to award grants to the schools that suffered the greatest flood damage.

For years, Wierzbowski Eversheds has been providing free legal assistance to individuals in need and to non-governmental organizations. In addition to the CEO Foundation, the firm’s lawyers also cooperate with other charity groups under the auspices of the Centrum Pro Bono project, as well as the Academia Iuris Foundation and the Legal Ethics Institute.

Give and Gain Day 2009

On 5 June 2009, as part of the global initiative Give and Gain Day, employees of Eversheds International all over the world took an active part in various types of training and educational programs for young people. Wierzbowski Eversheds was part of the initiative.

Through the Federation for Educational Initiatives, we have entered into cooperation with the “Bednarska” high school in Warsaw to enable the students to visit the law firm, get a behind-the-scenes look at the work of lawyers, and discuss the profession with practitioners. The students also took part in an interactive workshop on negotiation techniques, concluding with a negotiation role-playing game.

Participating in initiatives of this type allows us to play an active role in the life of the local community.

“Taking part in the Give and Gain Day program is a real pleasure for us,” said Wierzbowski Eversheds partner Judith Gliniecki, who was actively involved in the program. “It is very satisfying to use our knowledge and skills to help train the next generation. Just as important, involvement in the program helps bring our lawyers closer together as they focus on shared values.”

According to Iwo Gabrysiak, a senior associate who was also involved in the event: “Initiatives like Give and Gain Day are extremely important. They can provide inspiration for the younger generation, helping them set goals for the future by giving them an idea of what it’s like to work as a professional – not necessarily as a lawyer.”

For years, the law firm of Wierzbowski Eversheds has been providing free legal assistance to individuals in need and to non-governmental organizations. The firm’s lawyers cooperate with such institutions as the Legal Clinics Foundation (FUPP), as part of the Centrum Pro Bono project, the Academia Iuris Foundation and the Legal Ethics Institute (IEP). Give and Gain Day is another example of our law firm’s commitment to pro bono activities.
