Our CSR & Pro Bono activities
CSR activities have been an integral part of the strategy of Eversheds Sutherland Poland from the very beginning of its existence. We are engaged in a variety of initiatives aimed at supporting those in need. Below we present the most current examples of our social involvement.
Our CSR activities can be divided into several categories:
Pro bono assistance
We cooperate on a regular basis with Centrum Pro Bono (Pro bono Center), operating under the auspices of the University Legal Clinics Foundation. CPB is an interface between nongovernmental organizations and law firms willing to provide them with pro bono legal assistance. So far we have provided pro bono advice to dozens of NGOs who asked for legal assistance through CPB.
Supporting the legal community
- Each year we make a donation to the Prawo do pomocy charity (Lawyers help Lawyers). The charity was set up by lawyers to help people from the legal community who find themselves in a difficult personal or financial situation, in particular because of illness, disability or other accidents of fate.
Supporting innovation and entrepreneurship
We believe that as lawyers we can help increase the level of innovation of Poland’s economy by spreading knowhow on practical issues related to innovation and by supporting new projects. We support the startup community by providing them with free legal services and other opportunities aimed at developing their innovative projects.
- For many years we have run the Internet Start Up Program , offering free legal advice for internet and high-tech projects.
- We took part in many events where we share our knowhow on legal issues crucial for developing projects related to the internet and new technologies. Aula Polska, a nonprofit initiative providing tech entrepreneurship support, has recognized us for our “contribution to the development of Polish technological entrepreneurship.”
- We provided free legal consultations to members of TechHub Warsaw. TechHub is an international community of technology startups and a partner of Google for Entrepreneurs.
- We launched Eversheds for Innovation, a series of free seminars devoted to investing in new technologies.
Charities
- We support the Between Heaven and Earth Foundation (Fundacja Między Niebem a Ziemią) that help terminally ill children. We support the foundation financially, and also participate in many aid campaigns it runs. Every year before our team collects money for a Christmas gift for one of the children. Together with the foundation, in the Everyday SHEro campaign we recognize and support women who deserve to be called “everyday heroines.” Joining this campaign, we decided to focus on the women who care for dependents of the foundation. They often remain in the shadows, but every day they are dependable and show great strength, love, patience and perseverance in caring for their seriously ill children. Each year we recognize an “everyday heroine” by giving her a surprise gift on International Women’s Day.
- For many years we were taking part in Global Running Day to raise funds for Eversheds Sutherland corporate charity partner WaterAid.
- In 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we became involved in supporting Ukrainians who came to Poland, fleeing the war. We financially support institutions that help Ukrainians and organize individual support for those in need.
Pro-environmental initiatives
We support The Five Fractions Coalition is Poland’s - first cross-sector initiative seeking a systemic solution to the problem of segregating recyclable waste into categories or “fractions” at the source. The Five Fractions Coalition is a joint pro-consumer campaign by a dozen firms and institutions closing the gap in education and tools for achieving environmental targets in Poland. The campaign spreads knowledge and practices for segregation, recovery and recycling of waste among consumers. The aim of the initiative is to support enterprises in introducing an innovative labeling system for packaging. Marta Gadomska-Gołąb and Dr Aleksandra Kunkiel-Kryńska, the partners heading the Commercial practice, were invited to join the expert council for the initiative.
