Our CSR & Pro Bono activities

CSR activities have been an integral part of the strategy of Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland from the very beginning of its existence. We are engaged in a variety of initiatives aimed at supporting those in need. Below we present the most current examples of our social involvement. Our CSR activities can be divided into several categories:
Pro bono assistance

| We cooperate on a regular basis with Centrum Pro Bono, operating under the auspices of the University Legal Clinics Foundation. CPB is an interface between nongovernmental organizations and law firms willing to provide them with pro bono legal assistance. So far we have provided pro bono advice to dozens of NGOs who asked for legal assistance through CPB.
Supporting the legal community

| Together with the European Law Students’ Association ELSA Poland, we organize the annual Law Games competition for students of law studies, attorney trainees, and recent graduates. The main prize in the competition is the opportunity of a paid internship at Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland.
| Each year during the holiday season we make a donation to the Prawo do pomocy (Right to aid) charity of the money saved by sending e-cards instead of paper cards. The charity was set up by lawyers to help people from the legal community who find themselves in a difficult personal or financial situation, in particular because of illness, disability or other accidents of fate.
Supporting innovation and entrepreneurship

We believe that as lawyers we can help increase the level of innovation of Poland’s economy by spreading knowhow on practical issues related to innovation and by supporting new projects. We support the startup community by providing them with free legal services and other opportunities aimed at developing their innovative projects.
| We run the Internet Start Up Program, offering free legal advice for internet and high-tech projects. We have learned from our experience during implementation of many different types of commercial projects involving the internet and high tech how important legal support is for these undertakings. The program is our answer to this need. Realizing that the cost of specialized legal assistance may be a serious barrier, particularly for entrepreneurs taking their first steps in business, we propose participation in the Internet Start Up program for free.
| We take part in many events where we share our knowhow on legal issues crucial for developing projects related to the internet and new technologies. Aula Polska, a nonprofit initiative providing tech entrepreneurship support, has recognized us for our “contribution to the development of Polish technological entrepreneurship.”
| Throughout 2016 we provided free legal consultations to members of TechHub Warsaw. TechHub is an international community of technology startups and a partner of Google for Entrepreneurs.
| In 2016 we launched Eversheds for Innovation, a series of free seminars devoted to investing in new technologies.
Charities

| For many years we have supported the Between Heaven and Earth Foundation. Together with the foundation, in the Everyday SHEro campaign we recognize and support women who deserve to be called “everyday heroines.” Joining this campaign, we decided to focus on the women who care for dependents of the foundation. They often remain in the shadows, but every day they are dependable and show great strength, love, patience and perseverance in caring for their seriously ill children. Each year we recognize an “everyday heroine” by giving her a surprise gift on International Women’s Day. Moreover, every year our employees organize a Christmas contribution (in-kind and financial donations) to one child the charity takes care of. Each year we help a different child.
| In January 2017 we took part in a spontaneous initiative of several law firms in Warsaw aimed at supporting homeless people by collecting clothes and other articles that might be of use, especially in the cold winter months.
| In June 2017 we took part in Global Running Day to raise funds for Eversheds Sutherland corporate charity partner WaterAid. Collectively Eversheds Sutherland wanted to raise as much money as possible to help make a difference and provide access to safe water to as many people as possible. For every person that pledged to run, Eversheds Sutherland made a contribution to WaterAid, and we managed to collect nearly EUR 10,000 globally!

Pro-environmental initiatives

We support The Five Fractions Coalition is Poland’s - first cross-sector initiative seeking a systemic solution to the problem of segregating recyclable waste into categories or “fractions” at the source. The Five Fractions Coalition is a joint pro-consumer campaign by a dozen firms and institutions closing the gap in education and tools for achieving environmental targets in Poland. The campaign spreads knowledge and practices for segregation, recovery and recycling of waste among consumers. The aim of the initiative is to support enterprises in introducing an innovative labeling system for packaging. Marta Gadomska-Gołąb and Dr Aleksandra Kunkiel-Kryńska, the partners heading the Commercial practice, were invited to join the expert council for the initiative.
