Renewable Energy Sources 2014

A forum entitled “Renewable Energy Sources 2014: Investments, legal and financial changes—restraint or stimulus for green investments?” will be held on 23–24 April 2014 at the Polonia Palace Hotel in Warsaw. The event is organized by Bonnier Business (Polska).

The forum will address such issues as:

  • Will the proposed legal mechanisms for generation and trading in power from renewable energy sources achieve the purposes of the Renewable Energy Sources Act?
  • Will the new act assure investments necessary to meet EU targets under the climate package?
  • Which renewables segments will win and which will lose under the new regulations?
  • The effect of elimination of regular indexing of the substitute fee on the profitability of investments
  • Will the new act assure investors protection of their vested rights?
  • The effect of the new law on the strategy of energy groups
  • Can Poland afford to give up co-combustion of coal with a 10% addition of biomass—the cheapest source of green energy?
  • Is it the right direction to gradually withdraw support for co-combustion of biomass in favour of “prosumer” power?

Our law firm will be represented at the event by senior associate Łukasz Jankowski, who heads the energy practice, and Jakub Kasnowski, a lawyer on the energy team. In a presentation entitled “Rules for support of renewable energy sources in Poland,” they will discuss the following issues:

  • The “little trio” of utility regulations in the context of support for the development of prosumer power
  • The Renewable Energy Sources Act—new guidelines for new investments in the industry
  • Determination of the intensity of support and sunset provisions for support in future decades
  • Should the costs of support for renewables be itemized in electricity bills?
  • Support for capacity, for generation, or for added socio-economic value?
