TMT Policy Group meeting, “Transferring Personal Data Outside the EEA”

A meeting of the BPCC’s Technology, Media and Telecoms policy group will be held on 12 February 2015 at the British Polish Business Centre in Warsaw. The event, entitled “Transferring Personal Data Outside the EEA,” will be led by Gerard Karp and Magdalena Koniarska.

At the event, experts in the field of privacy, IT and telecoms from Wierzbowski Eversheds will explain amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act, drawing on their experience conducting cases before Poland’s Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO).

The agenda will cover the following issues:

  • Reasons personal data are sent outside the European Economic Area
  • Regulations concerning the transfer of data—key information
  • The basics of data transfer and the tools used
  • Prior law on data transfer agreements
  • New regulations on standard data protection clauses approved by the European Commission and binding corporate rules
  • Pluses and minuses of the amendments.

The meeting will be led by Gerard Karp, partner and manager of the firm’s Privacy, Information and Communication Technologies team and Electronic Communications team, and advocate trainee Magdalena Koniarska, a lawyer on the same teams.
