New framework for personal data protection in the EU: Challenges for Poland

A scientific conference devoted to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation will be held on 18 September 2015. The event is organized by Poland’s data protection authority, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO). The co-organizer is Michał Boni, Member of the European Parliament. Dr. Arwid Mednis is one of the invited speakers.

The conference is divided into three thematic sessions:

  • data protection reform—challenges for 2015-2018
  • data protection principles—selected issues from the General Data Protection Regulation
  • cConsequences of entry into force of the new data protection framework.

Wierzbowski Eversheds will be represented by Dr. Arwid Mednis, the partner in charge of the firm’s Privacy, Information and Communication Technologies team and Electronic Communications team. He will give a presentation in the second session devoted to consent to processing of personal data.

The organizers believe that launching of the process of agreeing on the final shape of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation among the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union is an important step in the EU’s reform of privacy protection, and a clear signal of progress in the legislative process. It is also an excellent occasion to begin the discussion over the process of implementing the new regulation into the Polish legal system.

Officials from Poland’s public administration, European institutions, and NGOs, as well as scholars specializing in data protection issues were invited to take part in the conference.

The entire event will be transmitted online at GIODO website
