Dr Aleksandra Kunkiel-Kryńska, who co-heads the Consumer, Regulatory & Life Sciences team at Wierzbowski Eversheds Sutherland, has been invited to address the “New Deal for Consumers” dialogue organized by the European Commission and the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). The event will be held on 18 October 2018 in Warsaw.

Consumer protection law and policy continue to face new challenges. In April 2018 the European Commission presented a package of reforms to the EU’s consumer directives to protect the economic interests of consumers, known as the “New Deal for Consumers.”

As part of this initiative, consumer dialogues are being held in 2018 in the member states, using an individual approach to each country. The aim of the events is to explain to citizens what the EU is doing for them as consumers and to hear their opinions on how the EU can better solve their problems, according to the website of UOKiK, joint organizer of the event.

Poland will host a consumer civic dialogue on 18 October 2018 in the auditorium of the Copernicus Science Centre from 9:15 am to 4:00 pm. The discussion will touch on the main expectations and challenges from the Polish perspective with respect to three issues: the proposed Directive on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers, the horizontal Consumer Rights Directive, and dual-quality products. Participants at the event will include Alexandra Jour-Schroeder, deputy director of the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers, and other representatives of the European Commission, the government administration, consumer and business organizations, scholars and journalists.

Dr Kunkiel-Kryńska was invited to take part in a panel entitled “Dual quality: Main expectations and challenges from the Polish perspective.”
