Changes in competition law give unprecedented powers to Poland’s market watchdog

On January 18, 2015, the Polish competition law (the Act on Competition and Consumer Protection) will undergo significant changes. Some of them are welcomed by competition practitioners and business. Although the main aim was to simplify and expedite proceedings conducted by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) and enhance the protection of competition in Poland, the main trend seems to be to expand UOKiK’s powers and toughen the antitrust enforcement regime.
