The German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche has again recognised Eversheds Sutherland as a top legal practice for IT and data protection law. Moreover, partners Dr. Alexander Niethammer and Nils Müller rank among the most recommended "TOP lawyers 2021" for data protection law along with Dr. Lutz Schreiber for IT law.

Alexander Niethammer (Munich) advises national and international clients on all questions of data protection law, data security and IT law as well as contract law. He specialises in advising in connection with international licence agreements, technology project contracts and the structuring of distribution networks. In addition, he represents clients vis-à-vis data protection authorities and advises within the framework of IT compliance projects regarding data protection provisions in contracts and data protection questions arising in connection with company transactions and outsourcings.

Lutz Schreiber (Hamburg), certified lawyer for information technology law, focuses on digitalisation and advises companies and investors mainly from the areas of technology and financial services regarding complex IT projects as well as cloud projects, outsourcing projects and software licences. In addition to data protection projects, he is regularly involved in technology transactions and IT litigation. The US specialist publisher Best Lawyers® has recently recognised Lutz Schreiber as "Lawyer of the Year" in the category data protection law.

Nils Müller (Munich), certified lawyer for information technology law, focuses on data protection law supporting companies in particular with respect to national and multi-national data protection projects (product/service compliance, data transmission, big data). He has particular expertise in the areas of employee data protection and life science (patient data, digital health). Furthermore, he represents clients in proceedings before the data protection authorities and in court litigation.

The IT & Data Protection practice group advises regarding technology and data protection topics within the framework of projects as well as the daily course of business and in litigation. The practice group focuses inter alia on IT outsourcings and other IT projects, maintenance and service agreements, software development and licencing, cloud computing, IT compliance, data protection and cyber security as well as current questions of digital transformation, such as the establishment of digital business models, e-commerce and big data. A growing field of advisory activity relates to questions of export control in connection with technology transactions as well as projects in the area of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0.

For the WirtschaftsWoche rankings, Handelsblatt Research Institute (HRI) asked more than 1070 lawyers from over 152 law firms to name their most renowned colleagues for data protection and IT law. A jury of experts then assessed the selection and chose 29 and 24 leading law firms and 35 and 33 particularly recommended lawyers for data protection and IT law.
