Eirgrid has published the Auction Timetable for the second Renewable Electricity Support Scheme. The provisional timetable sets out the main dates for the applications, bids and auction. A Qualification Information Pack will be issued on Monday 28 June. The Auction Submission Deadline is currently scheduled for Thursday 4 August.

This timetable is subject to change based on the final approval of the RESS 2 Terms and Conditions. A public consultation has been launched for stakeholders to provide feedback on the scheme and the final design of RESS 2 by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC).

The purpose of the RESS 2 scheme is to encourage investment in renewable energy generation in line with Ireland’s ambition of 70% renewable electricity, and an EU-wide renewable energy target of 32%, by 2030.

The policy objectives of the scheme include:

  • The provision of pathways and supports for communities to participate directly in renewable energy projects;
  • Broadening the renewable electricity technology mix (the diversity of technologies);
  • Delivering an ambitious renewable electricity policy to 2030; and
  • Increasing energy security, energy sustainability and ensuring the cost effectiveness of energy policy.

The closing date for submissions is 5.30pm on 20 August 2021 which should be emailed to or sent by post (for more details see here).
