Eversheds 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Activities

2017 CSR Activities

Give-a-little this Christmas campaign

For the month of December 2016, Eversheds Sutherland in Ireland chose to support three charities; St. Vincent de Paul, Inner City Helping Homeless and Alone. We support St. Vincent de Paul by participating in their Giving Tree campaign, whereby SVP provide us with tags for the giving tree and staff were encouraged to take a tag and purchase a gift for the apporpriate age/gender as specified on the tag. We supported the Inner City Helping Homeless by teaming up with them for their annual Christmas shoebox appeal. Finally, for ALONE we organised a bring and buy sale, our annual bake off competition and we held our annual ALONE raffle.
For the month of December 2017, we chose to support three charities:

Focus Ireland

We supported Focus Ireland by selling Christmas cards for the charity and we also chose to raise funds to pay the college fees of a young man who was living in Focus Ireland’s Caretakers Hostel. We raised these funds by having a festive dress up day. During Christmas week Focus Ireland held a special Christmas event as well as providing extra special meals on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day.

St. Vincent de Paul

Annual SVP Giving Tree
This is an initiative whereby SVP provided us with tags for the ‘Giving Tree’ which we hung on the Christmas trees in our offices during the month of December. Our staff were encouraged to take a tag and purchase a gift for the appropriate age/gender as specified on the tag. Each gift is distributed to families in need so that no child or adult would be without a gift at Christmas.

ALONE's Christmas campaign highlights the isolation and loneliness of older people around Christmas time. ALONE asks people to ‘share your presence’ by calling to visit anyone who may be isolated or lonely during the Christmas period.
We held our annual ALONE Christmas raffle to raise funds on the last day before our Christmas break and we also participated in the annual ERP Christmas Cracker 5k for ALONE.

Eversheds Sutherland has been a corporate partner with Barretstown for over 10 years now and has undertaken a number of initiatives to support the charity during that time.

In 2017 we were one of the main sponsors of the Barrestown Gala Ball, which was held on 22 September 2017 in the InterContinential Hotel, Dublin 4.

We also held our annual Eversheds Sutherland Sports Day for Barrestown in Herbert Park on Thursday 15 June.  All proceeds from this corporate fundraising event go directly to the Barretstown children's charity.

Over 25 teams from leading Irish companies and Ireland women's rugby player Sophie Spence joined us on the day to take part in activities such as as the egg and spoon race, the three-legged race, water relay and giant darts. Former Olympic runner Dave Matthews was also on hand this year to supervise our high intensity challenges.

The winners among a very competitive field were Allied Irish Bank plc, who were delighted to receive the trophy!

Below is some footage from the day.

Eversheds Sutherland Global Run for WaterAid

On Wednesday 7 June 2017, Eversheds Sutherland staff celebrated the joys of running by pledging to take part in some type of running activity – whether that be 1km or 10km, the choice of distance was up to them! For every person that pledged to run, Eversheds Sutherland made a contribution to WaterAid. €19 is the amount it takes to provide one person with access to safe clean water. With this in mind, Eversheds Sutherland also encouraged staff to contribute as much as they can afford via a JustGiving page. Collectively we wanted to raise as much money as we could to help make a difference and provide access to safe water to as many people as possible.

Across the globe, from Europe to the US, we had 442 staff pledge to run on Global Running Day. 2106 kilometres were covered. 2,727,034 steps were counted. As a group we raised €10,000 for WaterAid. This gives 527 people access to safe water.

We truly made a difference and had lots of fun doing so!

Grant Thornton Corporate 5km Challenge

This year, we were delighted to have over 30 staff members participating in the GT Corporate 5km Challenge on Wednesday 6 September. The event was a great success with over 5,000 runners taking part. All funds raised went to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Run in the Dark

Eversheds Sutherland was also delighted to have staff members participate in the Run in the Dark on 22 November 2017 in aid of Mark Pollock Trust.

Pro Bono

Eversheds Sutherland are on the panel of the Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA). PILA run a professional pro bono referral scheme, supported by lawyers, organisations, universities and students to help marginalised and disadvantaged people.

Eversheds Sutherland are also on the panel of the Bar Council's Voluntary Assistance Scheme (VAS) providing services to Charities, NGO's and civic society groups such as MABS and Citizens Information Bureau.

Most recently, we successfully represented Robbie Sinnott in his quest to establish his right to vote in private, notwithstanding his visual impairment. In light of this case, Eversheds Sutherland was delighted to win the "Excellence in Marketplace" award at the Chambers Ireland CSR Awards, which were held on Thursday 7 September 2017 in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin.

Arts & Culture

We are delighted to offer our staff the opportunity to participate in a walking tour of the magnificent Saint Patrick's Cathedral. As the largest cathedral and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Ireland, Saint Patrick’s has been at the heart of Dublin and Ireland’s history and culture for over 800 years.

We purchased a number of tickets for 3 different shows at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and offered these at a subsidised rate to our employees.
