Consultation and communication

Eversheds Sutherland acknowledges that consultation between employees at all levels is a vital component of effective environmental management. Consultation with employees on an international level is carried through liaison with staff representatives at regular meetings of each office’s Environment, Health and Safety Committee and, where appropriate, by direct consultation


The firm ensures that environmental management is co-ordinated to ensure that policies and procedures are standardised wherever possible, best practice is shared. Within the next 12 months, we aim to have a Global Environmental Management System.  

The Executive is responsible for the firm’s environmental management and is advised by the Environment and Sustainability Steering Group.

Rospa - Gold Medal Award 2014

The Gold Medal (5 consecutive Golds) award is a prestigious annual scheme run by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Eversheds LLP, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”

Nottingham BiTC Carbon Reduction Award 2012
Eversheds were recently announced joint winner of the Nottingham BiTC Carbon Reduction Award at the East Midlands Awards for Excellence, 20 June 2012 at the Roundhouse, Derby. View more here.

BiTC Yorkshire and Humber Environment Index Results 2012
Eversheds was awarded a Gold performance standard and a certification denoting it was a Climate Change Champion on Tuesday 1 May at the opening of the Eco-fair at Leeds. View more here.

The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards


The Sunday Times Best Green Companies Awards identify and celebrate organisations that strive to improve their environmental performance.

In 2011 Eversheds Sutherland achieved 12th place in the ratings - recognising the importance the firm place on environmental issues as well as the commitment of employees to our green agenda.

Carbon Trust Standard 2009
The firm has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard. The firm has reduced its carbon footprint by the equivalent of a ten hour flight for each employee which adds up to a saving of 866 tonnes of CO2 a year.

The European Travel Buyers Awards
The firm won the best CSR initiative in a Travel Programmer, 2011. The judges recognise that corporate responsibility is truly embedded within the firm and that the environment, health and safety, and business continuity processes in place have succeeded in reducing travel, but, also focus on traveller safety.

Green 500
We are proud to be one of the launch members of the Green 500 - a carbon management service linked to a performance awards scheme for large London based businesses and organisations. In 2010, the firm achieved a Diamond badge. 

Legal Sector Alliance
The Legal Sector Alliance enables law firms work with each other to address the issues of sustainability and contribute to the climate change agenda. The aim is to develop best practice principles and working methods uniquely suited to the needs of the legal sector.

Our offices

UK offices gain international standard for environmental management
Our UK offices have all achieved certification to ISO14001.  Attaining this international standard for environmental management shows a real commitment by the firm to corporate responsibility. However, the hard work does not stop there, as we continue to maintain and develop our environmental practices across the firm.

Clean City Award Scheme
In January 2011, the firm received a Platinum Award at the Clean City Award ceremony. This scheme recognises best practices in waste management and waste reduction and enable firms in The City of London to share best practice (previous winners of The Chairman's Cup 2010).
