Makeni Ethanol and Power Project case study
We advised the Addax & Oryx group as lead sponsor and the project vehicle on the financing of the €220m Makeni Ethanol and Power Project in Sierra Leone, from African Development Bank and other development financing institutions. Regarded as a market leading transaction for financing of biofuels on the African continent, the project will increase power generation in Sierra Leone by 20%.
This is the first power purchase agreement in Sierra Leone and features ground-breaking land arrangements for protection of local landowners. It is the largest international investment in agricultural sector in Sierra Leone.
Our team won Africa Renewables Deal of the Year 2012 in the Project Finance and Project Finance International Awards (for Makeni Ethanol and Power Project).
