Environment, Health and Safety training courses
Our training events attract hundreds of delegates to our offices each year. We have a sophisticated and diverse training offering, with all courses being delivered by qualified lawyers practising in the field. Our sessions are engaging and interactive, rather than simply a recounting of legal statute and case law. They instead focus on ‘real life’ examples and build on delegates’ own experiences to enhance the learning opportunity.
Public training courses run by experienced lawyers
Eversheds Sutherland runs a regular series of public training courses around its UK offices. The courses we offer include:
-
Health and safety responsibilities
We have delivered this course to a range of audiences, from ‘shop floor’ employees to boards of directors; dealing with both individual and corporate responsibilities and what ‘reasonably practicable’ means in practice. How can individuals face personal liability? What steps should I be taking to ensure I have a good safety management system? What should I be doing personally to reduce risk?) -
Contractor management
-
Driving for work – Records, police, investigation and law
There are over 500 ‘driving for work deaths’ a year and many more serious injuries. Most organizations have a driving for work policy, which is often aspirational in part. If so, a police/regulatory investigation will highlight gaps between what you have said and what you have done. This briefing will update you on the risks and help you encourage safer driving across your organization. -
Stress
-
HSE expectations
A course designed to help organisations understand what a good safety management system looks like and the steps they must take to keep employees safe and to comply with the law. -
Inquests and court appearances - safety incident response
When something goes wrong, the way an organisation responds, from the moment after the incident, all the way through the court process, is watched, recorded, analysed and judged
Court appearances are open to the public and the press. Regulators, considering criminal charges, will be interested in inquest proceedings because evidence relevant to the cause of death may highlight corporate or individual failings. The court process must not be viewed in isolation and leaders need to appreciate the implications of a public appearance so that appropriate tactical decisions are taken. -
an annual Health and Safety Update
A course which provides an annual refresher for those involved in managing health and safety. The course is presented alongside a former HSE Inspector. -
The Eversheds Sutherland Health and Safety Summer School
A two-day event held in London and attended by speakers regarded as leaders in the field of health and safety.
For more information about our external sessions please speak to a member of our client training team or book online .
In-house training on Environment, Health and Safety issues
“The feedback from the workforce has been very positive and as a result we made a business decision to continue using Eversheds Sutherland for this training rather than training individuals in-house.” FTSE 100 client.
We are experienced at delivering in-house training which is tailored to meet your own particular needs and requirements. We can work with you to identify the appropriate course content and timings so that it works for you. Our training has been used as part of wider initiatives and in some cases has become a standard part of an employer’s induction process.
We can run any of the public courses listed above in-house. In addition, we can run additional courses such as:
-
a ‘mock incident’ crisis management training day for the board of directors / senior management teams, where we can ‘test’ the delegates’ response to an emerging scenario involving a mock incident
-
critical incident training for senior management teams
-
environmental law update
