Fraud and financial crime

Fraud can destroy trust between companies and individuals, throw carefully laid plans into chaos and undermine an organisation’s collective identity, culture and values.

Our UK Fraud and Investigations team acts for corporate clients and individual board members in the financial services, energy, oil and gas, construction, utilities, transport, media, leisure, education and other sectors.

We have particular expertise in the financial services sector and we regularly advise major financial institutions on financial crime and fraud related issues and investigations. The breadth and depth of our practice is best demonstrated when advising clients with concurrent criminal, regulatory and civil fraud issues.

We have built strong relationships with key prosecuting bodies, ensuring a co-ordinated and harmonious approach when working with clients who have become the subject of regulatory investigations or prosecution. This enables us to provide specialist support to in-house fraud and compliance teams in relation to the conduct of internal investigations, and dealings with law enforcement agencies and regulators such as the Police, SOCA, SFO, FSA and HMRC.

We take a multi-disciplinary approach to deliver a cohesive strategy for clients that is both tailored and cost effective.  We also advise clients and individual employees on potential criminal liability, including representation in extradition proceedings.

Our expertise is not confined to litigation. We advise on money laundering systems, asset tracing, anti-bribery and corruption programmes, whistle blowing systems and other systems and controls to avoid corporate fraud.

We help clients trace and recover millions of pounds in misappropriated assets, often from overseas jurisdictions.  We can trace and recover funds by seeking court orders to obtain disclosure from banks and freeze accounts and other assets both in the UK and worldwide.

We represent senior office holders and companies being investigated or prosecuted by the various law enforcement agencies and regulators. We also advise on matters involving overseas regulatory, investigatory & prosecutorial bodies, including issues such as disclosure notices and compelled interview requests.

Where a whistle blower or audit reveals criminality within a business, we can help investigate and report the matter to a regulator or prosecuting agency. We help clients take the right steps to minimise their liability and protect their reputation.

We also put our experience to good use in designing and implementing effective compliance and training programmes on issues such as bribery & corruption and anti-money laundering as well as on internal corporate governance, including risk assessments, face to face training and online e-learning modules.
