City Regions lawyers driven to deliver the devolution agenda
Recognising civic enterprise
With years of experience in bridging the gap between the public and private sectors and in structuring deals to deliver nationally important regeneration projects, Eversheds Sutherland has been at the forefront of the key projects that have already brought the potential of City Regions into focus.
Alive to the devolution opportunity
The need to rebalance the economy by offering genuine fiscal and functional powers to cities is a key policy aim of the Government and the outcome of the Scottish Referendum strengthened the case for devolving powers to City Regions in England.
The Conservative election manifesto offered to devolve “far-reaching powers” to “large cities which choose to have elected mayors” and the current Government continue to champion this initiative through initiatives such as the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill.
With the prospect of major investment into city regional infrastructure, and cities outside of London offering improved risk to reward returns, now is the time for City Regions to take centre stage.
Positioned to deliver
Eversheds Sutherland are ideally placed to assist when it comes to releasing the economic potential of cities:
- We are well connected at a senior level to key stakeholders in the private and public sectors who will deliver the City Region Agenda including local authorities, combined authorities, LEPs, the HCA, investors and developers.
- We have a track record in delivering schemes of the scale envisaged by the devolution deals, including HS2 and major regeneration projects.
- All of this means that we can act as a catalyst for the types of innovative solutions that will be needed to deliver the city region agenda.
