Tobias Valentin Abersfelder is a Senior Associate in the Litigation & Dispute Management practice group at Eversheds Sutherland in Hamburg and Munich.

He regularly represents clients in contentious disputes under commercial law, often with a link to criminal law.

In this context, he inter alia focusses on advising within the framework of internal corporate investigations for the comprehensive resolution of compliance breaches as well as the enforcement of claims of companies which suffered damage resulting from compliance breaches in civil court.

Tobias Valentin furthermore provides advice regarding foreign trade law, in particular on matters of legal relevance to exports and sanctions. In this respect, the focus of his advice lies on the representation of companies and their executives vis-à-vis authorities and before court in criminal proceedings and proceedings for the imposition of administrative fines.

He is a permanent author of the Heidelberg Foreign Trade Law Commentary (Heidelberger Kommentar zum Außenwirtschaftsrecht) (editors Sachs/Pelz) and regularly publishes papers on commercial law matters.

Tobias Valentin studied law at the University of Bayreuth where he also obtained the additional commercial law specialist degree of "Wirtschaftsjurist (Univ. Bayreuth)". He then completed a postgraduate course at the University of Nottingham and obtained the title "LL.M. (International Commercial Law)". He completed his legal traineeship in the district of Munich Higher Regional Court. During that time, he worked for international law firms.

Tobias is recommended for dispute resolution by Best Lawyers/Handelsblatt in the young talent category "Ones to Watch".

  • Representation of a market-leading manufacturing company in criminal proceedings regarding alleged breaches of legislation on weapons
  • Representation of the managing directors of a food marketing company in criminal proceedings regarding alleged breaches of food law
  • Representation of a medical engineering company in criminal proceedings regarding alleged breaches of the German Medicinal Products Act (Arzneimittelgesetz)
  • Representation of a medium-sized company with regard to enforcing claims due to industrial espionage
  • Conducting compliance investigations for a global logistics company as well as representation of injured parties
