Matt is a Senior Associate in the Litigation group, specialising in contentious construction and engineering matters.

He advises on all aspects of construction litigation including arbitration and has experience in alternative dispute resolution proceedings including adjudication, mediation and expert determination both on behalf of employers and contractors. Matt has wide experience of court proceedings in England and Wales. Matt is also experienced in providing dispute avoidance advice to clients.

Matt is familiar with both bespoke and standard form construction contracts (including JCT, NEC3, ICC, MF/1, IChemE and FIDIC). Matt also has experience in acting upon disputes on projects governed by PFI/PPP contracts.

In particular, Matt has advised a major energy business on a c.$50m arbitration arising out of a power plant project in Jordan. Previously Matt also provided a internationally-known building contractor with extensive advice in relation to the defence of Part 8 Court proceedings and the settlement of a long-running final account dispute relating to a light rail infrastructure project in North West England.

Matt has assisted on a large arbitration seated in Dubai under the DIFC-LCIA rules for a subsidiary of a major international oil and gas company, regarding the construction of a gas loading/unloading platform in Iraq.

Matt also has wide expertise in construction defect claims, and has advised both employers and contractors on such matters.

Matt also has expertise in professional indemnity claims, in particular in defending contractors, and is familiar with insurance policy wording and coverage disputes.
