Richard is a financial services and private funds partner, ranked as a leading individual real estate funds.
Richard is a financial services and private funds partner within Eversheds Sutherland’s financial services team. He is also involved in the management of Eversheds Sutherland’s Luxembourg office.
Richard has over 17 years’ experience helping firms in the financial services sector to design, structure and implement their financial products, specialising in private funds investing in private equity, private debt, real estate, infrastructure, energy and renewables, as well as derivatives and the financial regulations affecting those products. He also advises clients on the financial collateral and security aspects of pension risk transfer transactions.
Richard advises LPs, particularly international, UK defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes on their investments.
He advises on all related contracts, including AIFM agreements, IMAs, depositary agreements, administration agreements, all ISDA, GMRA, GMSLA and other trading documentation.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys travelling, cycling and running. He provides pro bono services to children and young people so that they can enjoy their entitlement to citizenship or start their journey to permanent status in the UK.
Richard is heavily involved with industry developments and has inputted into various government and regulator consultations. He regularly sits on industry working groups.
Richard regularly presents at public and client conferences and events. As well as advising clients, Richard is regularly quoted in the press.
Richard has acted on a wide range of financial services transactions for a wide variety of financial services providers, including acting:
- on the establishment of a significant debt platform structured as a Luxembourg SCSp SICAV-RAIF with commitments of £1 billion
- for major US real estate manager on establishing a Luxembourg FCP RAIF investing in global core assets
- on the establishment of the UK’s first private shared ownership fund structured as an English limited partnership and a UK REIT, with a wholly-owned registered provider of social housing subsidiary
- on the establishment of a special situations fund structured as a Jersey limited partnership with an exempt unauthorised unit trust feeder for a major UK asset manager
- for a global asset manager on the establishment of its pan-European residential fund structured as a Luxembourg FCP RAIF
- for a London-based FX broker on its FX, repo and crypto product offerings across the UK, US, EU, Dubai and Singapore on product documentation, negotiation and global regulation
- for numerous buy-side entities in phase 5 and phase 6 of the UK and EU initial margin rules
- for numerous buy-side entities on their central clearing documentation for derivatives
- for a number of insurers, reinsurers and pension schemes on the financial collateral arrangements in respect of pension risk transfer transactions
