Practice notes

Ingrid van Berkel is an established lawyer, having first started her career in 1991. She is a partner and co-head of the employment and labour law practice, based in the Rotterdam office.

Ingrid advises Dutch and foreign clients on various aspects of labour law and employee representation. Ingrid's expertise spans a wide range of employment law issues with an emphasis on reorganisations, mergers and acquisitions, collective and individual dismissals, employee representation, union matters, (international) transfers of undertakings, and investment and startups in the Netherlands.

Ingrid has extensive experience working in (international) multidisciplinary teams and in industry related issues. Her clients are active in many different sectors such as services, diversified industrials and the consumer sector.

Ingrid is a regular speaker on employment topics at seminars and conferences. She is frequently asked as a trainer on Dutch Employment Law for HRM advisors and legal counsels with responsibility for the Dutch operations of their companies. Ingrid represents Eversheds Sutherland Netherlands in the International Human Resources Practice Group of Eversheds Sutherland International.

Her recent experience includes:

  • Reorganisation of Dutch subsidiaries of a US listed multinational company including Works Council issues and negotiations with Unions.
  • Advising on the closure of a Dutch plant of a global player in the chemical industry involving a collective redundancy (> 90 employees) and negotiations with the works council and trade unions.
  • Advising on the reorganization within the Dutch business of an international retail organization, involving redundancies and a complicated re-assignment process for employees.
  • Advising several foreign companies establishing their headquarters or operations in the Netherlands on how to manage their organisation from an employment perspective.
  • Advising on reorganizations, litigation in dismissal cases, day-to-day employment advice, works council issues and cross border projects for all Dutch subsidiaries of a US listed multinational company.
  • Advising on the closure of an international fashion retailer’s store in Amsterdam involving a collective redundancy (100 employees) and negotiations with the governmental body (UWV).

Ingrid is a member of several specialised employment law associations such as the  Netherlands Employment Lawyers Association (VAAN) and the Rotterdam Employment Lawyers Association (VRAA).
