Indra is a partner in the firm’s global IP practice specialising in patent and technology disputes. He is also an experienced life sciences lawyer and advises on regulatory issues.

Indra Bhattacharya is an IP partner specialising in high value multi-jurisdictional IP disputes. His focus is primarily on complex patent litigation matters across a range of technology areas, including life sciences, consumer technology, energy and industrials.

He also advises on non-contentious issues and works closely with corporate teams on commercial IP advisory and transactional work. As part of this, he has conducted complex patent and technology reviews in connection with high profile international transactions

Indra routinely advises on regulatory issues within the life sciences sector, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices. He has a technical background in genetics and chemistry and has previously worked in industry.

Indra is passionate about diversity and inclusion and was ethnic diversity co-chair at a leading international law firm. He is an avid reader and cinephile and loves musicals at London’s West End.

Indra is a member of Eversheds Sutherland’s IP global steering committee, where he is responsible for developing the firm’s global strategy on patent litigation and the regulatory advisory practice. He is also a member of AIPPI.

Indra regularly presents at public and client conferences on different areas of intellectual properly. He has previously taught and lectured on intellectual property and IP licensing.

Indra has over 15 years of experience acting in high value patent and other technology disputes, including recently:

• acting for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies in patent litigation in the UK concerning an anti-cancer drug and coordinating pan-European enforcement action
• successfully defending a large multinational technology company in patent infringement proceedings before the High Court of England and Wales relating to wi-fi technology and which led to the invalidation of the asserted patents
• acting for a specialist glass manufacturing company in trade secrets litigation before the High Court of England and Wales

Indra has also significant experience in advising on regulatory issues affecting the pharmaceutical and medical devices sector including interactions with MHRA (the UK’s healthcare regulator), market access for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, borderline classification, clinical research, advertising and labelling, pricing and reimbursement and general compliance requirements affecting interactions with healthcare professionals.
