Practice notes

Jean-François is a partner specializing in banking, financing and commercial law, notably in international banking transactions and in the regulation of financial institutions. He acts for lenders, borrowers, project and private equity sponsors, governmental agencies and others.

Prior to joining the firm, he was general counsel of a regional bank, where he provided business, strategic and legal advice in transactional, regulatory, corporate governance, compliance, and litigation matters. And prior to that he was a senior consultant with a prominent Mauritian law firm.

Before moving to Mauritius in 2009, he was a partner at the Canadian law firm McCarthy Tétrault, where he had practiced since being admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1996.

While studying law, he lectured in economics and worked as a research assistant at the École des Hautes Études Commerciales in Montréal, Canada, from which he also a graduated. He is a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors and is registered as a foreign lawyer in Mauritius.
