Practice notes

Michael is a solicitor in our Managed Legal Services group, specialising in regulatory and competition related matters in the utilities sector.

He holds several post-graduate qualifications including a Masters and Doctorate in commercial utilities law from Cornell University and a Masters in Sustainability Leadership with a water law focus from Cambridge University. He is an English and Scottish qualified solicitor and publishes in the water and utility sector. In addition, he sits on the board of the Journal of Water Law and holds the position of Book Review Editor.

He has worked with international organisations (The United Nations, The Council of Europe) private organisations (fund management, private enterprise), universities and law firms.

Michael advises on a variety of issues impacting the water sector. These include: the interpretation and application of statutory provisions governing water and sewerage undertakers, works powers, water supply and sewerage powers and obligations, the determination of rivers and sewers and the application of laws such as that relating to biocidal products.

In addition, Michael also provides ongoing competition advice and training related to the water industry including advising on a variety of issues.
