Stephen is a Senior Associate in our human resources practice group specialising in employment law. He is also a member of Eversheds Sutherland's national industrial relations (IR) and labour group.

Stephen advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment and IR/trade union matters and acts for a wide range of clients. In particular, he provides advice in respect of day-to-day employment related issues such as grievances, disciplinary matters and capability issues; TUPE matters; terminations; negotiating settlement agreements; and restructures and redundancies. He also advises on executive terminations and the employment aspects of commercial transactions.

With respect to his contentious practice, Stephen litigates matters before both the employment tribunals and the employment appeal tribunal, and performs his own advocacy. He has acted for clients in cases involving a wide range of employment issues, including unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, detriment, wages and breach of contract claims. He also has an interest in civil litigation and deals with matters that have an employment aspect to them that are before the county and high courts.

Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Stephen worked in the in-house legal team at the General Medical Council, and also held various human resource management roles within both NHS and private sector health and social care organisations.

Stephen qualified as a solicitor in 2015, after deciding to take a change of career direction, having worked as a human resource professional for a number of years. He graduated with an LLB (Hons) in Law in 2005, has a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
