Jane is a Legal Director in our Employment, Labor & Pensions Practice Group, with over 20 years’ experience as an employment lawyer. She has particular expertise in relation to the employment aspects of corporate and commercial transactions, outsourcing, TUPE, complex restructuring, redundancies and senior executive terminations. Jane also advises on cross-border employment issues, including post-acquisition integration, and regularly project manages employment advice across a number of jurisdictions.

Jane's recent experience includes:

  • Advising a client on a significant UK restructure, involving large scale redundancies, collective consultation with trade unions, role mapping and contract variation processes and responding to threatened strike action by unions.
  • Advising a client on the exit of its CEO, including consideration of complex issues around share option rights.
  • Obtaining injunctive relief on behalf of a client to recover its confidential information from former employees and to prevent further misuse, coordinating dawn raids on properties and obtaining an account of profits from the defendants.
  • Advising various clients on the employment implications of employees remotely working in non-UK jurisdictions during the Covid pandemic, including accidental creation of a corporate presence for tax and employment purposes.
  • Assisting various clients to respond to the changes to the IR35 off-payroll working rules, including reviewing engagement documentation and devising strategy for resource engagement.
  • Coordinating a Covid-19 Helpline for a global client across numerous jurisdictions, including coordinating horizon scanning and real-time updates on local developments that will affect workforces and labor strategy.
  • Advising clients in relation to gender pay and bonus gap reporting, including assistance with the method of calculation and analysis and presentation of the results.
  • Advising a client in relation to its management of its large casual workforce in response to recent cases on employee status and developing an appropriate strategy to migrate to employment contracts.
  • Advising Transport for Greater Manchester in relation to the procurement of a new operation and maintenance contract for the Metrolink system, involving assisting with the bidder negotiation stages and the development of the employment-related sections of the contract documents.
  • Advising a client in the manufacturing sector in relation to the closure of its defined benefit pension scheme and the threat of strike action.

Jane speaks regularly on a variety of employment topics at a both client and internal training courses and is a member of the Employment Lawyer's Association.
