Practice notes

Dr. Thomas Freund is a Partner in the Banking & Finance practice group of Eversheds Sutherland in Munich.

He advises German and international financial institutions, private equity funds and businesses of various industries with respect to complex national and cross-border financing.

He mainly advises with regard to:

  • acquisition financing
  • direct lending (including senior/super-senior structures)
  • project and infrastructure financing
  • leveraged buy-outs
  • corporate loans (including borrower's note loans)
  • restructurings

Thomas has many years of experience with creditors and lenders, including unitranche and other direct lending financing.

In addition, he is a co-author of the handbook "Acquisition Finance Agreements in Germany" (Beck 2017).

Before joining Eversheds Sutherland, Thomas had been working in the Banking practice group of Latham & Watkins in Munich since 2015. He started his career in the Banking & Finance practice group of Ashurst in Munich.

His recent experience includes advising:

  • Alcentra Limited (Alcentra) and Deutsche Bank AG with regard to the financing of the acquisition of congatec Holding AG (congatec) by DBAG*
  • a bank consortium with regard to the financing of the acquisition of Castolin Eutectic Group by Paragon*
  • Waterland with regard to the financing of the acquisition of Leupold Group*
  • IK Investment Partners with regard to the financing of the acquisition of MDT technologies GmbH*
  • DPE Deutsche Private Equity with regard to the unitranche/super senior financing of the acquisition of valantic Group*
  • Ergon Capital with regard to the re-financing of Opseo Group (Deutsche Intensivpflege)*
