Practice notes
Natascha Geraedts started her career at the Council of State in the Hague and later joined Van Doorne lawyers and notaries. In 2016 she co-founded vanState Advocaten, a boutique law firm in Amsterdam specializing in real estate, environmental and planning law. She joined Eversheds Sutherland in 2018 as a partner in the real estate practice.
Natascha is a real estate lawyer specialised in administrative law relating to specific real estate issues, environmental law (EHS) and planning and zoning. She has broad domestic and international experience and in depth knowledge of planning and zoning in relation to real estate projects. She is highly recommended for negotiating with local and national authorities.
Natascha has developed a national practice in a variety of sectors, with a special focus on energy projects such as biomass installations, data centers and other real estate development projects.
Natascha is admitted to practice law in the Netherlands and speaks fluent Dutch, English and French. She holds a degree from Groningen University in public and international law (1993). Natascha has lived and worked abroad in D.R. Congo, Egypt, Reunion and Greece.
She advised recently:
- A worldwide chemicals company on EHS requirements for closing business activities at its Dutch plant. Our advice included permitting and compliance requirements.
- A company in process of acquiring a data center company in Amsterdam region on Dutch EHS requirements for data centers such as on asbestos, waste water, noise emissions and restrictions. Examined amount of available "noise-space" for future extension of plant regarding applicable noise-zone in zoning plan.
- A company setting up multiple data centers in the Netherlands. Our advice included the entire land acquisition process including zoning and permitting, and drafting of reservation, option and sale purchase agreements.
- A company in the process of setting up multiple biomass-fired power plants in the Netherlands, on the permitting process, all applicable EHS requirements including negotiations with the Ministry and obtaining energy subsidies for the amount of 50 million euros.
- A major Dutch property developer on risks of extensive contamination of ground water on adjacent land.
- A company acquiring a target company on liabilities regarding remaining contamination in soil after termination of remediation. Our advice included extensive clarification of specific decree issued to target company by Dutch environmental (EHS) authorities.
- A landowner owning a large estate in his court proceedings for claiming extensive damage caused by planning and change of the zoning plan.
- A company in its negotiations with the municipality on relocation of its business. Our advice included drafting of the LOI, the reservation agreement and all zoning aspects.
- A UK wind developer in a wind development project on an industrial site in the Netherlands. Our advice included permitting requirements.
Publications / other activities
Natascha is an author for Wolters Kluwer and publishes on administrative law legislation.
Natascha is co-founder and boardmember of the En Classe Foundation, which improves basis infrastructure and the quality of education at primary schools in D.R. Congo. Natascha is board member and advisor of the Cable Car Foundation, that aims to develop the first fully green cable car in the Netherlands.
