Practice notes

Joos is a Partner in our Munich office from where he heads the German Practice Group Litigation and Dispute Management. Joos is a commercial litigator with more than 16 years of experience.

Joos represents commercial clients with a special expertise in distribution and franchise law. His activities include conducting complex court and arbitration proceedings, in particular in an international context. In addition, Joos advises national and international clients in compliance matters and is a member of Eversheds Sutherland's Global Compliance and Crisis Management Group.

Prior to his appointment as Partner in 2010, Joos headed the legal department of Burger Kings' Central European Division for four years. In this function he was in particular responsible for the expansion into the Eastern European markets, such as Russia. Moreover, Joos was a management member of various Burger King companies in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands and was vice president of the German Federal Association of the Fast-Food Industry (Bundesverband der Systemgastronomie, BdS).

Chambers Global 2016, Chambers Europe 2016 and Legal 500 Germany 2016 recommend Joos for conflict resolution. Furthermore, JUVE Handbook recommends him for distribution and franchise law.

  • A French company in preliminary injunction proceedings regarding asset tracing based on fraud damaging the client
  • A German industrial company in legal proceedings with respect to cartel infringements, including damage claims
  • A globally operating oil trading company in court proceedings about complex contractual provisions of price adjustment
  • A high-tech manufacturer in cross-border ICC arbitration with respect to long-term supply obligations
  • A German industrial company regarding risk analysis and implementation of a compliance management system
  • A US American franchise company in court proceedings regarding claims resulting from franchise agreements
  • A US American industrial company in ICC arbitration regarding compensation claims accrued from a project cooperation agreement for the Middle East
  • A US American industrial company in post-M&A arbitration under the rules of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS) following the acquisition of a German subsidiary
