Darren is an Associate in our Litigation and Dispute Management group in Hong Kong.
Darren joined Eversheds Sutherland Hong Kong in 2019 as a trainee solicitor. Prior to his training at Eversheds Sutherland, he worked in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Futures Commission. He has broad experience in judicial review, regulatory investigation, arbitration, and commercial litigation.
Darren acts for regulators, listed companies, high-net-worth individuals, financial institutions, and multinational corporations across different sectors, on a range of matters including shareholder disputes, financial services disputes, debt recovery, insolvency, and other regulatory, investigatory and compliance advisory matters.
Darren’s notable experience in litigation and regulatory work includes:
- Advising a Japanese listed company as respondent in an HKIAC arbitration proceedings seated in Hong Kong in respect of a joint venture dispute.
- Advising a leading Chinese bank in a GBP 30 million dispute subject to HKIAC arbitration in connection with construction loans for a large re-development project in London
- Acting for a large retail bank in respect of an investigation by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority into the bank’s system failure on transaction monitoring.
- Acting for a large Hong Kong securities firm on its defence against a defamation claim.
- Acting for a high net worth individial in a shareholder dispute arising out of a pre-IPO investment.
- Advising ASIFMA in response to the Securities and Futures Commission's consultation and prepare industry-wide materials.
- Advising a Money Service Operator Licensee on the regulatory compliance of a proposed forex forward products.
- Acting for a leading Chinese airline in successfully opposing an injunction application taken out by its creditors against its real estate property.
- Advising financial institutions in debt recovery actions and security enforcement proceedings.
- Advising regulators on enforcement proceedings and judicial reviews.
