Thomas joined the Commercial team as an Associate in September 2022, after spending six months in the team during his training with the firm.

Thomas provides input and support on commercial projects, with a focus on strategic transport and infrastructure arrangements, and has already been involved in a number of a high-profile rail projects at an early stage of his career.

His experience of supporting the delivery of strategic commercial and transport projects includes reviewing and reporting on contractual documentation, developing contract drafting, engaging directly with clients and supporting with the preparation of legal advice for clients in a clear and succinct manner. He also provides commercial-focussed support to the firm’s Corporate team through due diligence and contract review exercises.

Thomas gained invaluable practical experience in the firm’s Pensions, Real Estate Occupiers and Commercial Dispute Resolution teams before qualifying as solicitor in the Commercial team. He also previously worked at a large private sector rail transport operator in a trainee operations management role, gaining extensive hands-on industry experience at two UK rail operators over the course of a year. Having had exposure to the workings of a commercial business, he is able to apply his commercial experience and legal acumen to assist your business with its legal needs.

In his spare time, Thomas enjoys travelling, takes a keen interest in the rail and aviation sectors, whilst also following motorsport and football, playing the violin, and occasionally taking the opportunity to have flying lessons.

Thomas’ recent experience includes:

  • assisting in advising the UK Department for Transport in relation to the process leading to the award of a National Rail Contract to First Greater Western Limited in June 2022
  • assisting in advising the UK Department for Transport in relation to the process leading to the successful appointment of its in-house Operator of Last Resort to take over the operation of Southeastern rail services from London & South Eastern Railway Limited in October 2021
  • carrying out and being involved in the management of due diligence, the review of a substantial volume of documentation and undertaking contract drafting work in connection with a significant project in the rail sector
  • reviewing and carrying out drafting work on product and service agreements for a childcare service provider

Qualifications and Education

  • Diploma in Legal Practice, BPP University, 2019-2020
  • Bachelor of Laws LLB, 2:1 classification, University of York, 2015-2018
