Practice notes

Angharad is a Legal Director in our Inquiries and Investigations team.

Angharad was the Solicitor to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry responsible for the day to day management of the Eversheds Sutherland Team based in Jersey and monitored the progress of preparation of evidence through the various work streams.

Angharad was the main point of contact linking the Panel, Counsel to the Inquiry and the Eversheds Sutherland team. When evidence was being collated and the hearings were ongoing she met with the Panel on a weekly basis and updated them of progress on a daily basis. Likewise, Angharad was the main contact for Counsel to the Inquiry to ensure that they had sufficient information to prepare to take witnesses through their evidence. A number of particularly vulnerable witnesses requested to only deal with Angharad due to her sensitive and understanding approach. Angharad also therefore conducted interviews and also took notes at interview and drafted the witness statements thereafter.

During the initial phase of the Jersey Inquiry, Angharad coordinated the build of the document management system and drafted the reviewing tags for use by the document review team to assist with the categorisation of documents to ultimately assist with the interview and hearing preparation and report drafting. Angharad liaised with the States of Jersey Police and the Law Officer’s Department in respect of the disclosure of documents to the Inquiry. During the course of the Inquiry a number of document and evidence providers to the Inquiry raised issues in respect of legal professional privilege. Angharad attended meetings with the document providers in order to establish the basis for the refusal to provide documentation and worked with the document providers to overcome these issues. Angharad also advised the Inquiry Panel in respect of Data Protection responsibilities as data controller.

Angharad coordinated the team to schedule the interview timetable and also the hearing timetable which could change regularly due to the vulnerability of witnesses and also their availability. Angharad is methodical and organised and maintains composure under extreme pressure. Angharad is Prince II qualified and has higher level security clearance (Develop Vetted clearance).

Angharad is currently working on behalf of a core participants in the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, the Grenfell Tower public inquiry and the Infected Blood Inquiry. Angharad has provided advice to the clients on what documents should and should not be disclosed and has advised on issues of privilege. Angharad also has experience in conducting internal investigations for clients in preparation for a public inquiry.
