Practice notes
Patrick was a partner with Frere Cholmeley Bischoff from 1990 and head of the IP group there for four years. Before that he was Legal Director of the BPI, the trade association for the UK record industry. He has experience of all areas of IP. His main speciality is copyright; most of his work being for media clients.
Patrick's work has been mainly non-contentious for such clients as Elton John, AEI Music Inc, The Prince's Trust ('Party in the Park') and a number of recording artists. In the past he has successfully conducted major litigation in the High Court and the Copyright Tribunal, which remains a speciality. He lectures and chairs conferences on media matters on a regular basis.
Patrick writes articles for 'The Times' and other publications. He is author of 'The Eversheds Guide to the Music Industry' and various other publications about copyright and the Internet. He is also a regular broadcaster on a variety of subjects (for radio and TV).
Previously a partner with Eversheds, Patrick left the firm in October 2006 and became an external consultant.
