Practice notes

John is a Senior Associate in our Human Resources group, specialising in employment and industrial relations law. He advises on a broad range of employment law issues for major corporates, financial services clients, start-ups, private equity businesses, and outsourced services.

John has particularly strong experience in contentious employment law issues, including management of all stages of Employment Tribunal litigation and settlement. He also regularly advises on non-contentious employment issues including drafting executive service agreements, contracts and policies, the preparation and enforcement of restrictive covenants, disciplinary matters, redundancy exercises and TUPE transfers.

His recent experience includes advising a senior private equity house on the entry and exit of teams of senior management within their portfolio companies; guiding a major outsourced services client through multiple employment tribunal cases as well as advising on restructuring programmes arising from the COVID-19 pandemic; and providing employment advice on the purchase of a major restaurant group from administration.

John has spent time on secondment within the HR team of a major global bank and within a UK regulator. He also has an interest in cross border employment issues, and spent one year researching American employment and labour law at an Ivy League university.
