Practice notes

Chris is an Associate in our Human Resources Practice Group, specialising in contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.

Chris advises a range of public and private sector organisations, with a particular exposure to the Higher Education sector, on issues such as redundancy; employee severance, including departures of senior personnel; discrimination; capability and performance; unfair dismissal; and breach of contract claims. Chris also advises clients on the HR-related impact of GDPR.

Chris also routinely assists clients with complex and high-value employment tribunal claims and works for a variety of clients – his recent experience in this field includes successfully defending a Russell Group university against a multi-million pound discrimination claim and successfully defending a “worker status” claim for a private hire operator.

Chris is a member of Eversheds Sutherland’s Education team and, in that sector, regularly advises Higher and Further Education institutions on day-to-day employment law matters, as well as more complex strategic projects including large restructuring projects, changes to employee terms and conditions; management of complex employee relations issues; and responding to reputationally-sensitive matters. Chris also has a particular expertise in the employment of Clinical Academics.

Before joining Human Resources Practice Group, Chris was an Associate in our Commercial Dispute Resolution team and has extensive experience of civil court litigation (County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, including Judicial Review claims).
