Cedric Lam has more than 25 years of experience counselling cross-border, complex, high-stakes intellectual property-related transactions and disputes. He heads Eversheds Sutherland’s IP practice in Asia, where he resides and primarily practices. 

Cedric has exceptional experience helping multinational corporations acquire, exploit and enforce their IP rights and trade secrets, as well as implement technology transfer, IP protection, licensing, litigation and anti-counterfeiting strategies. He also counsel private equity and venture capital firms on IP investments in Asia. 

Cedric has been recognized repeatedly as a prominent IP strategist in peer-reviewed rankings and top legal directories, including IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals, Asia IP Experts: Licensing and Enforcement and International Who’s Who Legal: Franchise.  The author of more than four dozen articles and book chapters on IP and franchise matters, Cedric is a regular commentator in the media and speaker at industry conferences in Asia and around the world. 

Cedric has served as Asia-Pacific regional legal counsel of a major US-based global IP collective. Prior to his legal career, Cedric was a licensed pharmacist in Canada, where he gained valuable big pharma, government regulatory, and research and development (R&D) experience. 

Cedric devotes himself to his clients’ success, with a dedication to client service and keen business insight that his clients – which include some of the world’s most recognizable and esteemed brands and celebrities – will tell you is unsurpassed. 

Cedric earned his Bachelors of Science degree at the University of Toronto and his J.D. degree at Osgoode Hall Law School. In addition, he holds diplomas in advanced practical intellectual property laws from McGill University in licensing IP, patent law, and trademark law.
