Partner

Andrew is a Partner acting on transactional utilities matters within our Real Estate team.

Andrew's practice centers on utilities and infrastructure projects, focusing on energy and telecommunications.

He has acted for FTSE100 energy companies for well over a decade. He has been at the forefront of some of the most significant and pioneering new energy projects which have been built and connected to the national electricity transmission network in that time.

Andrew has acted both for and against operators and been involved in some of the cases determined by the lands tribunal under the latest incarnation of the 'Telecoms Code.' He is experienced in the statutory framework and advising clients on how it sits alongside wider property law.

Andrew and his team have trained both lawyers and clients on some of the nuances of utilities law including matters such as the impact of the Telecoms Code, compulsory procedures under the Electricity Acts, utilities indemnities, regulatory compliance and governance.

Andrew's experience includes:

  • providing advice and acquiring land and rights for an FTSE 100 energy company regarding a multi-billion pound upgrade to the national electricity transmission system
  • advising an international electricity JV regarding the land and rights acquisitions for a £1bn+ electricity interconnector, negotiating with landowners and other stakeholders and working closely alongside a concurrent CPO process
  • negotiating mechanics, terms and documentation for a major power company to ensure the ongoing viability and operation of a number of major transmission sites around the UK following the decommissioning of adjoining former power stations
  • running many transactional telecoms negotiations acting closely alongside our telecoms litigation colleagues on contentious proceedings running through the lands tribunal, a number of which have resulted in published cases
  • acting for a major infrastructure provider compiling a suite of documentation for the rollout of a 'smart' telecoms network potentially covering many hundreds of sites
  • acting for an airport group concerning the installation of distributed antenna systems throughout their terminals at many major UK airports

  • acting for a national landowner concerning the rollout of the emergency services network in rural locations
  • acting for an FTSE100 property investor and developer regarding utilities rearrangements for a 100,000 square foot major city site redevelopment, including the negotiation of a complex suite of agreements with a major telecommunications infrastructure provider to facilitate their multiple relocations during the various build phases, dealing with a sewer build over and a new electricity connection
